Dior at the DMA

Fashion has always connected people to various cultures. Throughout history while acceptance of other people may not have been high on the priority list, acceptance of others fashionable contributions has always been “en vogue”.  The Dior exhibit showed the diversity of fashion and how every culture has contributed to the world of fashion. One of the dresses’ that captured my attention was a dress worn by Josephine Baker. Inside the exhibit was a slideshow filled with beautiful celebrities all in Dior gowns, I was starstruck by a photo of Josephine Baker vibrantly lighting up the room. To this day many people have had trouble finding designers to dress them for special moments in their lives and seeing her in Dior felt symbolic. Many entertainers of color have moved to other countries to be appreciated and accepted. The power of fashion can bring people together and she represented that power.
